Multi-Cultural Leadership Council

Mission Statement

The Multicultural Leadership Council (MLC) is a coalition of graduate student organizations representing diverse intersectional identities, communities, and academic disciplines across the University of Michigan.The MLC fosters collaboration and mutual support among our member organizations. We coordinate strategic actions that advance equity and promote an inclusive environment so that students at UM can thrive. We work with key stakeholders across campus and demonstrate meaningful solidarity with community-led movements at UM and beyond.

 

Active Initiatives

We continue to work closely with student groups and administrators to ensure that graduate students from diverse backgrounds are represented, valued, and supported through the implementation of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Plans (DEI). See the links below on how we have been involved:

Past Achievements

•  Released a statement asking DEI leads to be transparent around the release of the DEI plans

•  Stood in solidarity with our queer students of color in the time of the Orlando Shooting

•  Worked to put on a community conversation about police brutality in the aftermath of the Philando Castille shooting
